Mary Stevens, a talented doctor, and her friend Don Andrews set up medical offices in the same building. Despite initial struggles, Mary builds a reputation, while Don prioritizes his social life and neglects his practice. He marries into wealth and begins embezzling funds, driving Mary and Don apart. Two years later, Mary's career takes off, while Don's life crumbles. They have an affair, but Don is unable to divorce his wife due to her family's influence.
