In this gripping thriller, a skilled US secret agent is dispatched to Berlin to assume the role of a Soviet spy, embarking on a complex web of deception and intrigue.

Boris Mitrov, a Russian immigrant, builds a career in the US film industry and becomes a movie producer with influential friends. He cultivates relationships with Russian émigrés, including Soviet Embassy official Vladimir "Vadja" Kubelov, who is actually a KGB colonel. Mitrov unknowingly provides services to Soviet sleeper agents and hosts parties for Soviet diplomats, spies, and American Communists, attracting the attention of American intelligence agency CBI. After being confronted, Mitrov agrees to be a double-spy for the CBI, using his connections to gain the Soviets' trust and penetrate the Kremlin.
