A concert pianist, Joyce Hatto, is discovered by her husband and agent, William Barrington-Coupe, also known as Barrie, in 1953. Despite her talent, Joyce's career is limited by stage fright and later cancer. After Joyce's passing, Barrie discovers that her old recordings are selling well online and concocts a scheme to pass off recordings by other pianists as Joyce's work, fooling even critics.
