In 1927, two friends, Günther and Paul, question whether they've reached the peak of life. They crave full, uncompromising lives and love. Joining Günther's sister Hilde for a weekend in a summer house, Paul becomes smitten with her. Initially, it seems his feelings are reciprocated. However, Hilde has a secret: she's in love with Hans, Günther's former lover, from a lower social class.
