On a luxurious cruise, a high-society woman finds herself caught between a passionate affair with a wealthy suitor and the menacing demands of a former flame.

Letty Lynton, a wealthy socialite, boards a ship back to New York, leaving behind her one-time lover Emile Renault in South America. On the voyage, she meets Jerry Darrow and begins a new romance. However, Renault is waiting for her in New York and refuses to give up, so she takes drastic measures to rid herself of him. When she's brought in for questioning, Jerry helps her create an alibi to avoid suspicion.
