A young Middle Eastern woman, Layla, arrives in America to marry her fiancé, but instead chooses freedom over an arranged marriage. She finds work as a nightclub dancer and befriends a good cop and his partner. Layla seeks a new identity, rejecting the traditional roles prescribed by her male-dominated homeland. She must adapt to the evolving gender roles in America, caught between the tight cultural norms of her homeland and the more open, but confusing, roles of American society.
