Fifty years after its inception, Cinecitta, a renowned movie studio outside Rome, becomes the backdrop for Federico Fellini's latest film. As he starts production, a Japanese TV crew sits down with him to discuss his extensive filmography. A young actor portrays Fellini's arrival at Cinecitta for the first time, where he meets a star. Meanwhile, Marcello Mastroianni, dressed as Mandrake the Magician, makes a fleeting appearance. The scene shifts to Anita Ekberg's villa, where the iconic Trevi fountain sequence from La Dolce Vita (1960) is recreated, seemingly conjured up by magic.
