On a stormy night, serial killer Jonathan Chambers is executed, but his corpse is brought to a hospital for an autopsy, accompanied by Sheriff Berger and coroner Doctor Hitchens. Meanwhile, a suicidal teenager, Sara Wexler, is hit by the sheriff's car and taken to the same hospital, where she discovers that the dead are coming back to life. Sara shares a room with Walter, a stabbed classmate, and convinces him to help her escape, but they soon find themselves trapped in the hospital, surrounded by chaos and terror as a psychopath searches for Sara.
