In New York, the young man Alex watches a chess game on the street and is invited to play by the winner. Alex loses the game and goes home. His friend Jason visits him and Alex has migraines. Out of the blue, he faints and Jason calls an ambulance to take him to the hospital. The neurologists Dr. Denise Bell and Dr. Ira Gold examine him and learn the Alex's brain uses the frontal lobe more than any normal person, reason of his intelligence. Dr. Bell recommends Alex to be consulted by her friend, Dr. Karen Murphy, who is writing a book about cases similar to his. Soon, Alex has hallucinations with a monster while several murders are occurring with his acquaintances.
