Van, the heir of a Vietnamese clan, returns home after nine years in the US to oversee the relocation of his father's tomb. His family is taken aback to find him with Ian, his young Vietnamese-American boyfriend. Van and Ian plan to reveal their relationship to Van's widowed mother, Mrs. Hanh, who had expected him to marry and have children to fulfill his duties as heir. However, things become complicated when Van's grandmother, suffering from senile dementia, mistakes Ian for her own grandson.
