A former gangster, Marc Fury, pleads self-defense for a murder committed by his boss, Joe Farrow, in exchange for a $50,000 I.O.U. After being acquitted, Fury is ordered to be deported unless he can convince a judge to let him stay. As he works with a volunteer, Lynn Warren, to help a family of European refugees, Fury's tough exterior begins to soften. However, Farrow renege on their deal, leading to a dramatic conclusion at Fury's final deportation hearing.
