As the Funland amusement park prepares to open for the new season, employees are caught up in the rituals of preparing for the crowds. However, the joy is short-lived as the owner, Angus Perry, is found dead, and the park is sold to a shady development company led by Maurio DeMauro. The new owners are only concerned with profit margins and start cutting costs, replacing family-friendly rides with more lucrative attractions. The changes are met with resistance from Bruce Burger, the beloved clown mascot, who has become increasingly unhinged as his sense of identity blurs with his role as the character.
