In 1959, American troops in Asia and later the US government provide support for two actresses to establish a charity for mixed-race "orphans" who are shunned and neglected in their local community. This charity, later known as Childhelp, goes on to open multi-disciplinary centers for abused and neglected children in the US. One of these children is Jacob Fletcher, a bright young boy who was subjected to trauma by his stepfather, a lawyer, but is eventually reclaimed after his stepfather's 10-month jail sentence.
