The sole survivor of a Japanese attack at Guadalcanal, Jack is hailed as a Medal of Honor hero for his bravery. Returning to train new recruits, he finds love with Peggy, but ultimately feels unfulfilled and decides to transfer back to the front lines, where he will face new challenges and a changed perspective on war.
