David Kolowitz, a young man living with his parents in New York City, works at a machine repair shop but dreams of becoming an actor like his idol Ronald Colman. Despite his parents' wishes for him to study pharmacy, David lands a small part in a low-rent play, where he must come up with his own costume and pay tuition.
