An uneducated but kind-hearted villager, Arumugham, is sent to Chennai to meet the minister who represents his village, after a chemical factory pollutes the local river and the villagers' attempts to stop it fail. Along the way, he meets a childhood friend, Easwari, and her grandmother, and they stay with his friend and his gang.
