In June 1940, the de Gaulle family faces the devastating collapse of France's military and government. As Charles de Gaulle flees to London, his wife Yvonne is left to navigate the treacherous roads of the French exodus with their three children.

Paris, June 1940, France faces military and political collapse as the Battle of France rages. Charles de Gaulle, a brigadier general, fights against the German army while his wife Yvonne cares for their three children. De Gaulle is appointed Defence Minister, but is met with hostility by other officials. He decides to fly to Britain to meet Winston Churchill and discuss the evacuation of the French army to French North Africa. After successful meetings, de Gaulle offers his resignation, but is urged to stay. He escapes to Britain and begins working for BBC Radio, issuing an appeal to the French people to continue fighting against the German aggressors.
