In a tumultuous split, vaudeville couple Joe and Sally go their separate ways. Sally, a stunning and gifted performer, gets her big break as a chorus girl and subsequently becomes a star after her own song is featured in a major production. The producer, Pat, is smitten and proposes to her. However, Joe's lack of talent leads him to a downward spiral, and he resorts to selling soap and tar in a sailor's costume. Just as Sally's life is about to change forever, a shocking secret threatens to upend everything.
