Zac Beaulieu, born on Christmas Day 1960, is the fourth of five sons to Gervais and Laurianne Beaulieu. He feels disconnected from his brothers, each with their unique characteristics. Zac's contempt is reserved for his second eldest brother, Raymond, a shiftless druggie. His mother sees Zac as her miracle son, born on Jesus' birthday and with the power to heal, according to a mystic. Zac wants to please his father, who expects his sons to be masculine, but struggles to live up to their expectations.
