The fact-based historical drama tells the story of the Irish farmer rebellion against the landed and privileged class in 1880. Prominent Irish politician Charles Stewart Parnell urges peaceful resistance, such as shunning the landlords, rather than violence. Despite disagreements with Parnell's approach, farmers and evicted tenants decide to follow his idea and boycott Captain Charles Boycott, one of the worst landlords. They refuse to talk to, work for, or provide services to Boycott, and even the village priest supports the peaceful protest.
