Two wildcatters, Big John and Square John, develop their own oil fields despite their rough-around-the-edges nature. However, their friendship is put to the test when Big John falls for Square John's girlfriend, leading to a bitter breakup. Years later, when Big John's infatuation with Karen Vanmeer threatens his marriage, Square John tries to save the marriage by intervening, even if it means ruining Big John financially.
