WW2 commando raid, Operation Mad Dog, targets a German-occupied French port to destroy a battleship dry-dock. Despite the high risk of failure, the mission is approved, but the Canadian officer, Major Jamie Wilson, faces opposition from a Royal Navy captain whose son died in a previous failed raid. The commandos undergo intense training, but the operation is put in jeopardy when they're forced to use sub-standard equipment and an old mine-layer instead of a destroyer. The plan involves a ship carrying explosives ramming the dry-dock, while commandos create a diversionary attack on neighboring piers. However, the mission is compromised when a German observation plane spots the task force, and the RAF is unable to provide bombing support. Despite orders to abort, Major Wilson decides to press on, risking everything to prove his capabilities.
