Madison McBride, a teenager, joins Richard Miller University to cope with the loss of her father and brother. She meets a group of outcasts, including Holt, String, Ivy, Maya, and Tommy, all with their own traumas. As they navigate the school, they discover that their dorm was once an asylum run by Dr. Magnus Burke, who used state-of-the-art treatment to "cure" troubled teenagers. However, the interns rose up against him in 1939, killing him and exposing the truth about his methods. The group soon realizes that their dorm is haunted by Dr. Burke's vengeful spirit, seeking to torment the souls of those who were once his patients.
