In a South American country, a democratically-elected president is overthrown by a military coup and flees to London to lead a government in exile. As he rallies international support, he must also navigate his personal life, including his complicated relationship with his assistant, Kate, who harbors a secret. Meanwhile, a team of assassins is sent to London to eliminate him, and he is surrounded by a cast of characters with unclear allegiances, including Russians, an American book publisher, a mysterious Brit, and a few loyal supporters. As Carlos faces danger at every turn, he must figure out who he can trust and if he will ultimately be able to reclaim his presidency.
