Kristin Parson, a struggling clothes designer, leaves her disappointing life in LA with her 9-year-old daughter Emily and returns to her hometown in the northeast. Her aunt Sarah, who runs a diner, helps Kristin settle in and her daughter gets her old room. Kristin manages to secure a late audition for the school's Christmas show, thanks to Danny Collier, the single music teacher who had a crush on Kristin in high school. As Emily works with Danny on her singing and songwriting, she and her mother start to adjust to their new life and forget their longing for LA.
