Barry Al-Fayeed, a 20-year US resident, has built a life in Pasadena, California, with his wife Molly and their two children. However, his past as Bassam, who escaped a repressive regime in Abuddin at 16, comes back to haunt him when he returns to his homeland at his mother's urging. Accompanied by his family, Barry is drawn into the troubles facing the Al-Fayeeds, who have ruled Abuddin as a dictatorship for generations.
