On his first day of high school, Kyon meets eccentric girl Haruhi Suzumiya, who reveals that she's only interested in aliens, time travelers, and espers. Disappointed by the afterschool clubs offered to her, she starts a new club called SOS Brigade and enlists quiet bookworm Yuki Nagato, shy but beautiful Mikuru Asahina, and grinning transfer Itsuki Koizumi. None of them are part of Haruhi's desired groups except Kyon, who must keep an eye on her. If Haruhi ever becomes too dissatisfied with reality, she might unintentionally destroy the world.
