Adam Beaudreaux, a Vietnam war veteran, was rescued by a young boy named Grady Jameson after being wounded. Years later, Adam, now a cop, is determined to find Grady, who was orphaned and had to survive on his own. Adam discovers that Grady has become a martial arts expert and gives him a job at his bar. Grady often helps Adam with cases where legal technicalities prevent him from intervening, but his methods sometimes clash with Adam's. Meanwhile, Adam takes responsibility for a young gang leader named Miguel Mendez and helps him, similar to how he helped Grady.
