Joan d'Arc is born in 1412 in war-torn Northern France, where she's inspired by the legend of the Maiden of Lorraine, who will unite the country and lead it to freedom. At 11, she begins hearing voices from Saint Catherine and Archangel Michael, who commission her to convince Prince Charles to become King of France and drive out the English. Charles sees her as a catalyst for his disheartened troops and tasks her to lead the army with Captain La Hire. After their victory at Orléans, Joan participates in Charles' coronation in Reims. However, Bishop Pierre Cauchon accuses her of heresy, and she's eventually captured by the English after breaking Charles' treaty with Burgundy. Put on trial, Joan is sentenced to be burned at the stake as a heretic.
