The Boston watering hole "Cheers" is the setting for the lives of its employees and patrons over 11 years. Sam Malone, a former baseball player turned bar owner, finds salvation from his past struggles with alcoholism through his work. He develops a complex relationship with Diane Chambers, a cultured waitress, and later with Rebecca Howe, the bar's manager. The regular patrons, a group of self-proclaimed misfits, form strong bonds with each other and the bar, which becomes their home away from home.
Diane Chambers makes her home at Cheers when her fiancé leaves her.
