Louise Créteur, a widow, is forced to relocate to Paris after her husband's tragic death on the Titanic, leaving her young son Lucien behind with her father in Honfleur. She finds work as a maid in the dilapidated Villa des Roses, a mansion in the French countryside.

Louise Créteur's life is forever changed when her husband dies on the Titanic, forcing her to leave her young son Lucien with her father in Honfleur and move to Paris. She takes a job as a maid at the Villa des Roses, a dilapidated pension run by a retired barrister and his wife, where she becomes embroiled in the lives of a cast of eccentric characters.
