Louise Créteur's life is forever changed when her husband dies on the Titanic, forcing her to leave her young son Lucien with her father in Honfleur and move to Paris. She takes a job as a maid at the Villa des Roses, a dilapidated pension run by a retired barrister and his wife, where she becomes embroiled in the lives of a cast of eccentric characters.
