In 1863, during the Civil War, Confederate prisoners of war agree to join forces with the Union Army to fight against Indians, in exchange for their freedom promised by President Lincoln. A company of Confederate Georgia cavalry POWs, led by Colonel Clay Tucker, joins the Union under the condition they won't fight against the Confederacy. They're sent to Fort Thorn in New Mexico, where tensions between Unionists and Confederates quickly resurface despite their fragile alliance against the Indians.
