Lulù, a diligent employee, gains favor with his bosses but earns resentment from his coworkers. The unions respond by organizing protests against the management. Lulù initially disagrees, but after a workplace accident leaves him without a finger, he comes to sympathize with the workers' plight and joins the strike. However, he is promptly fired and ostracized by both his colleagues and his lover. Despite this, the unions' efforts ultimately lead to his rehiring under new labor laws.
