The Tree of Wooden Clogs background

The Tree of Wooden Clogs

A rural Italian farm at the end of the 19th century, where peasants toil in a feudal setting.

In late 19th century Italy, a small farm relies on its poor country workers, who are paid based on their productivity. One family, however, makes a remarkable decision to send their clever child to school, despite the sacrifice. The boy must rise early and walk miles to attend classes. When his shoes break on the way home, his family faces a daunting dilemma: how can they afford a new pair?
