Venya's mother is initially skeptical of his refusal to participate in mixed swimming lessons, citing shyness. However, after the school's principal exempts him, Venya becomes convinced that his intense Bible study gives him the power to control authority. He clashes with a teacher who rejects his dogma, leading him to try to eliminate her and dominate the community.
