Inspector Ghote, a middle-class man living in Bombay with his wife Pratima, is assigned to investigate the murder of a wealthy man's secretary. He is forced to work with a Swedish forensic expert, Axel Svennson, who is initially unimpressed with Ghote's skills. Despite their differences, they develop a friendship and Axel is invited to meet Pratima at Ghote's home. As they dig deeper, they uncover a web of corruption and power struggles that lead them to the surprising truth behind the murder.
