Buck, a St. Bernard-Scotch shepherd mix, is stolen from his home in California and sold in Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush. Initially a pampered dog, Buck must adapt to a harsh new life as a sled dog and fight to survive. Eventually, he is taken in by John Thornton and learns to rely on his primal instincts, ultimately answering "the call of the wild" and becoming master of his own destiny.
