The Borgia background

The Borgia

The film explores the notorious Borgia family, featuring Pope Alexander VI, who inspired Machiavelli's "The Prince", his ruthless son Cesare, and the cunning and alluring Lucrezia, a woman known for her cunning and deception.

In 15th century Italy, Pope Rodrigo Borgia, a ruthless and cunning leader, seizes power and begins a reign of terror, eliminating anyone who stands in his way. With his children as pawns, he manipulates alliances with rival families through strategic marriages, including those of his beautiful daughter Lucrezia and passive son Jofré. His eldest son, Cesare, feels suffocated as a cardinal and resents his family's machinations. When his brother Juan is killed in an assault, Cesare's anger and resentment boil over.
