The 5th Quarter background

The 5th Quarter

The true story of Jon Abbate, a driven football player who wears the number 5 jersey in memory of his 15-year-old brother Luke, who died in a car crash.

In 2006, Luke Abbate accepted a ride home from a fellow student after a high-school team practice. The driver, who was reckless and irresponsible, lost control of the car at nearly 90 miles-per-hour, causing the vehicle to spin off the road and crash into an embankment. Luke suffered severe brain damage and died in the hospital two days later, just before his 16th birthday.
