In Taipei, a scientist named Hashimoto captures the energy of a child's spirit using his "Menger Sponge" invention. He enlists the help of a lip reader, Detective Tung, to study the ghost's movements. As they investigate, Tung uncovers the boy's tragic story: he was killed by his own mother due to his terminal illness and buried near a nuclear plant. The boy's rage towards his mother, fueled by his location of burial, is believed to be the reason the energy remains. When the government shuts down the research, Hashimoto becomes unhinged and takes the spirit with him.
