In 1921 Dublin, the Irish Republican Army (I.R.A.) clashes with the British "Black & Tans", notorious for their brutal tactics. As Kerry navigates the conflict, he finds himself torn between his growing feelings for an English hostage and the growing divide between the I.R.A. and the British, who offer a peace treaty that is deemed insufficient by Lenihan.
