Kelly Pavlik, a professor of English Literature, is invited to Oxford once she obtains her Ph.D. Her family's Montana ranching legacy is no longer her path, causing a rift with her widowed father, Hank Pavlik. Kelly has had little luck in romance, wanting to be swept off her feet like in Jane Austen novels. When her father inherits a title and the throne of Merania, Kelly and her father travel to the Central European principality. Kelly meets Nik, the King of Angosia, and believes she's found her "Mr. Darcy", but realizes she doesn't love him and that he's not what he seems. Meanwhile, she falls in love with Alex, the royal stablehand, who is also in love with her.
