Two aspiring filmmakers, Kenny Hotz and Spencer Rice, aim to produce a big-budget Hollywood movie, "The Dawn", a transgender mob comedy. Despite having a script, they face challenges in getting noticed without major financing, a star or director attached, or a reputable agent. They attend the 1996 Toronto International Film Festival, pitching their movie to anyone who will listen, but receive no concrete leads. Undeterred, they decide to take their pitch to Hollywood and try their luck.
