In 1867 Texas, the American Civil War has ended, but a few Confederate commanders, including Colonel Thomas Blake, refuse to surrender. Blake and his men raid towns and settlements, and rumors spread that he's gone insane, committing crimes for personal gain. Authorities offer large rewards for his capture or killing, but Blake is cunning and hard to catch. He's actually searching for 200,000 dollars that vanished from the Confederate coffers during the war. A trusted aide, Chamaco Gonzales, is sent to find the money, but is captured by Union forces and sentenced to death. A man named Stuart saves Chamaco and asks to meet Colonel Blake, claiming to be a former staff officer under General Beauregard. Stuart says he knows where the money is buried and offers to help Blake retrieve it.
