Patrolman P background

Patrolman P

The 1973 film "Serpico" tells the true story of Frank Serpico, a New York City police officer who blew the whistle on corruption within the department in the early 1970s.

In 1971, the Knapp Commission's investigation into corruption in the New York Police Department hits a snag as their key witness, Frank Serpico, refuses to wear a wire. However, they gain a crucial break when corrupt cop William Phillips agrees to go undercover, trading immunity for a bribery charge. Phillips' evidence ultimately leads to the indictment of thirty NYPD officers, but his own fate takes a dramatic turn when he's convicted of double murder.
