John Sims, a man with big ideas but little follow-through, is on the verge of being evicted and homeless with his wife Mary. Their savior arrives in the form of Mary's Uncle Anthony, who offers them a 160-acre farm in exchange for their help. Initially, they struggle to adapt to rural life, but with the help of a transient couple, Chris and Hilda, they learn the ropes. John's next big idea is to form a cooperative, where people with different skills can barter and work together to survive. Despite initial success, the group faces challenges, including self-serving individuals and the unpredictability of farming.
