In the 1970s, 15-year-old Mooney Pottie, a loner from Nova Scotia, dreams of escaping her mundane life in New Waterford. Despite her family's disapproval, she wins a scholarship to a New York art school with the help of her teacher Cecil. When her parents refuse to let her go, Mooney devises a plan to leave. Meanwhile, a group from NYC, including Lou and her mother, temporarily relocate to New Waterford to escape the city's troubles. Lou becomes friends with Mooney and earns a reputation as a formidable force, using her powers to punish the guilty.
