In a Delhi slum, Somnath (Somu) lives with his mother and sister. He befriends Vikram (Vicky) Maharaj, whose father, Damodar, is a wealthy businessman. When Damodar falls ill, Vicky takes over his role and clashes with union leader Bipinlal Pandey, leading to a strike. Vicky apologizes to Bipinlal and everything returns to normal, but Vicky confides in Somu and they plot to teach Bipinlal a lesson. Somu gets a job at Vicky's mill, becomes friends with fellow workers, and is elected union leader. However, their friendship is put to the test when Damodar discovers Vicky's growing influence from Somu's middle-class values and ideals.
