Mary Parsons, the valedictorian of her high school class, runs for Mayor against her estranged father, the current Mayor, after he left her and her mother years ago. She gives up college to do so, despite being accepted to every university she applied to. As she campaigns, Mary's mother and grandfather, as well as the rest of the town, know her true motivations, but she denies them at first. However, during the battle, she discovers that the town needs new leadership and innovative thinking to revitalize the community, which has suffered from the decline of small businesses and a disappearing Main Street. Mary's out-of-the-box solutions ignite and inspire the town, putting her in a strong position to win the election. Along the way, she finds a way to make peace with her father and maybe even win the heart of her high school sweetheart.
