A dock worker in Le Havre discovers a group of undocumented African immigrants alive inside a container that was supposed to arrive in London. A young boy, Idrissa, escapes and is taken in by Marcel, a former artist turned shoeshine, who decides to help him get to London. As Marcel works to reunite Idrissa with his family, he must evade the authorities and a nosy police inspector, all while dealing with his own personal struggles, including his terminally ill wife's health.
